Books, Books, Books!!!

If you have been around my channel or have followed me on Instagram long enough, there is one thing you know about my family…WE LOVE TO READ! Since starting to homeschool my children over ten years ago, I have always made reading an important part of our homeschool through read-alouds and assigned readers. These things have helped to foster a love of reading in my children. If they are not playing with their siblings or running around outside, you can find my children in their rooms or cuddling up on the couch with a book of their choice.

Over the years, I have collected SO many books and have linked many of them on my Amazon page. However, as you may know, it can sometimes be hard to find exactly what you are looking for in a list since it cannot be filtered to show specific categories like books. So to make it easier for you all, I’m writing this post.

All the books on my Amazon page have been sorted into four groups:

  1. Books For Mom

  2. Books For Kids

  3. Books For Homeschool

  4. Books For the Holidays

Every book will be linked, and for some, I’ll share a video from my YouTube channel where I shared more about the book.

As these posts become available, you can access them by clicking the images at the bottom of this post.

As many of you know, I greatly advocate for high moral literature and classics that teach good character and family values. It can be hard to sort through many books in public libraries or bookstores to find good books highlighting these important counter-cultural qualities. This is where The Good and The Beautiful comes in! We read A LOT of the books from their library, and best of all…we already know that they are good books because they pre-screen the content, so we don't have to. Check out their library and their book list. Also, check out Jenny Phillips’ videos on “Why Books Matter.”

Over the years, as we have read books aloud, I have taught my children to pre-screen books themselves so they can choose independently. I can’t tell you how many times one of my children has come to me and told me, “This is not a good and beautiful book; I don’t want to read it.” Teaching your children this skill is important not only for what they read as children but will continue to bless them when they become adults. It is important to protect not only your mind but your children’s minds and hearts from the evil things of this world.

Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” and Matthew 6:22-23 states “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!

What you view, or in this case READ, with your eyes will affect your heart and it will either be good and acceptable or the opposite. Guard your heart's friends and fill your mind and body with light. I hope my lists will help in bringing good books to you, your children, and homeschool.
